If you have a plentiful source of wood or other biomaterials to burn, using an outdoor wood burning boiler may be a good alternative for home heating fuel. Most can be setup for duel fuels (wood and LP or gas), for periods when the fire can’t be maintained. There are lots of articles available researching the “green” value of wood burning. CO2 will be generated either way (burning or decaying in the woods) and high efficient wood burners can minimize the effects of the burn process.
